As always when the new year comes along, there’s such a buzz about resolutions and realizations – things that we would like to tweak or change for the better in the new year. In a past post, I’ve touched on why branding is important and why it needs to be strengthened for business success. Now, let’s focus on the rules to follow – the A-B-C’s, if you must – to make sure the way you create and grow your brand is always on point.

A-SSESS WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU CAN DELIVER. It’s hard to be something or say you do something well, if in truth you can’t really deliver. Be true to yourself first and then be true, as well, to your audience. Find a niche where your unique and specific skills can be beneficial and work at honing those.

B-E SPECIFIC WITH YOUR FOCUS. Your business needs to be able to convey what makes you unique from the rest. What is your specific selling proposition that differentiates you from all the others? It’s messy and confusing for audiences to see a whole slew of skills with no focal point, and it won’t fare well for your business in the end. Assess yourself and figure out one unique service or skill you know you can deliver 101% of. Focus on that and convey that in your branding.

C-ONSISTENCY IS KEY. Once you’ve got the first two down to a tee, you have to make sure that you are consistent in your messaging and in your style for everything you do. This makes sure that your brand recall is strong and that your audience is able to differentiate your brand and your unique selling proposition from the rest.
